What you told us

As UHW turned 40 we asked visitors and staff what they thought about the hospital ....

Derek Manship
"I dislike hospitals on principle but the doctors we’ve seen are excellent, especially my wife’s. Every bit of nursing we’ve had has been really good."

Derek Manship from Llanrumney

 Patricia Attard

"I worked here for 40 years and loved every second of it. I started off in maternity, wonderful team of girls. They all do a wonderful job here. My friend has had treatment recently and the staff were fantastic."

Former UHB employee Patricia Attard from Llanrumney

 Ellie Morris

"Everyone has been really helpful and reassuring, and it is easier to undergo procedures when you’re being looked after."

Ellie Morris from Monmouthshire

 Christopher Lovejoy
"I work here and I like it. I like the concourse, everything is well organised and runs smoothly. I’ve never had any problems in or out of hospital."

 Ronald Canning
"I come every month and the staff are lovely. I am happy with the treatment I receive and the ambulance service who take me home are marvellous."

Ronald Canning from Rumney

 Hugh Austwick

"I’ve been coming here for five years on and off and the overall treatment has been good. The level of care is very good and some of the individuals, especially the nurses are very good. They have good facilities for visitors and the specialist ITU and Neurology wards were good."

Hugh Austwick from Caldicot

David Shankland
"The service I’ve had here has been absolutely brilliant. The nurses are wonderful, angels on earth. Nothing is too much trouble for them – they deserve more money! Two years ago I spent Christmas and New Year in hospital here and there was a wonderful atmosphere on the ward. I always enjoy my meals too as I have a healthy appetite, and I always look forward to my cup of tea."

David Shankland from Barry

 Robin Olden

"I’ve just completed my undergraduate study and I’m doing my first year of my PhD here. The hospital is very neat and the staff are nice. Everyone communicates well and the patient based research is excellent. I enjoy going to see patients during the research. I didn’t expect the facilities that they have here – they’re very good."

Robin Olden from Cathays, a PhD student at UHW
