Urology is the branch of medicine that deals with the surgical management of kidney diseases and both the surgical and medical management of prostate and male uro-genital conditions.  Urologists also deal with bladder problems in both men and women.
 
 

What we offer

 
The Department of Urology deals with:·
 
  • Diagnosis and treatments of cancers of the prostate, bladder, testes, kidney and penis.
  • Medical and surgical treatments for benign prostatic enlargement.
  • Medical and surgical treatments of functional bladder conditions, including incontinence in women.
  • Treatment for urinary tract stone disease.
  • Neuro-urology.
  • Renal obstruction, including obstructive renal failure.
  • Andrology, including male infertility and erectile dysfunction.

Specialised procedures carried out in the department include:

  • Radical prostatectomy for early prostate cancer.
  • Cystectomy and orthotopic bladder reconstruction for bladder cancer.
  • Surgery for renal tumours involving the inferior vena cava using cardio-pulmonary bypass.
  • Retroperitoneal surgery for advanced testicular cancer.
  • Bladder reconstruction for neuropathic and non-neuropathic bladder overactivity.
  • Artificial urinary sphincter implantation.
  • Laparoscopic nephrectomy.
  • Shock-wave lithotripsy for urinary tract stone disease.
  • Urodynamics.

Outpatient Department, suite 18, upper ground floor

From the main entrance Concourse, lower ground floor. follow signs for wards and Outpatients on ground floor (walk up stairs or take the lift to ground floor).  Walk down the corridor directly to Outpatients, turn right and follow the signs for suite 18.  Please report to the receptionist at the desk. 
 

Inpatient Admissions
Conditions

Patients are admitted typically with conditions requiring the following:
 
  • Radical prostatectomy.
  • Radical nephrectomy.
  • Radical cystectomy.
  • Laparoscopic nephrectomy.
  • Bladder reconstruction.
  • Retroperitoneal lymph node disection.
  • Percutaneous renal stone surgery.
  • Trans urethral resection of the prostate.

 

Inpatient Referrals

Discuss with urology registrar on call and ensure referral slip is posted on dedicated notice board on A5.

Consultant to Consultant Referrals

  • Ward referral slips - for inpatient/outpatient review.
  • Referral letter - for outpatient review after discharge.
