Welcome to Theatres and Endoscopy
The Theatres and Endoscopy Department provides care for children and adult patients undergoing surgery. We support surgery and anaesthesia for emergencies, trauma and orthopaedics, cardio-thoracic, neurosurgery gynaecology and many other specialities.
In total there are 12 theatres at the University Hospital of Wales and 10 at the University Hospital Llandough which includes two day surgery theatres and two endoscopy procedure rooms. At the University Hospital of Wales, there is a separate endoscopy unit which has 3 procedure rooms. The endoscopy units provide a diagnostic and theraputic service for patients with a wide range of conditions. With nearly 500 staff the departments are the busiest in Wales performing approximately 30,000 procedures a year.
