Risk Register

A risk register is a prioritised log of an overall assessment of a range of risks.  Each identified risk should be assessed and if necessary recorded in a register.  The register includes:
  • A description of the risk, its cause and impact
  • The existing controls for the risk
  • An assessment of the consequences and likelihood of the risk happening with the existing controls in place
  • The risk rating: low, medium, high or very high
  • The further action that is required to reduce the risk rating.
  • The potential risk rating once the identified actions have been completed.
Completing the risk register enables us to work through how we can prioritise, manage or treat the risks that we face.  Keeping such a record of risks helps the Health Board to review and check whether risks have changed or if new risks need to be added.  The published risk register is the Corporate Risk Register for the whole Health Board.  Divisions, Directorates and Departments each maintain their own area specific risks registers which are used to inform the Corporate Risk Register.

Cardiff and Vale UHB is committed to publishing its current approved risk register, to access previous risk registers please submit a formal written request under the Freedom of Information Act.
