Rhydlafar Unit

Aims of Rhydlafar Unit

Our aim is to enable patients to achieve their maximum potential to give them best possible outcomes. Rhydlafar Unit supports patients and their carers to optimise their recovery, whilst encouraging development of staff members. Our aim is to provide a wide range of services for patients who require slow stream rehabilitation or continuing assessment.

What we do

To ensure that our aims are achieved, we work closely with other members of the multi-disciplinary team. We hold meetings every Wednesday and there is also a ward round which is used for teaching purposes and staff support. Assessments are carried out to ascertain the level of care a patient requires whilst being in hospital and patient requirements to enable a safe discharge. This will be to the most appropriate care setting, whether to patient's own home with support, or in a nursing or residential home.

Patients are encouraged to join in sessions such as Jabadao, carpet skittles, reminiscence, bingo and board games and, if able, go to the gym for yoga and T'ai Chi. Available to patients is a Snoezelan which is a multi-sensory hands-on therapy unit brought onto the ward.

Patients go for OT supported home visits and also visit the department for sessions in the kitchen or to achieve other social activities such as craft work, singing in the Chapel and flower arranging.
