Information for Students on Registering with a General Practice

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board has worked in partnership with general practices and Cardiff University to ensure that students are able to register with a general practice.

The Allocation of University Halls of Residences to GP Practices attached list provides a guide to where you can register, depending on which Hall you live in. You are encouraged to use the list that is allocated to your place of residence.

When you move to a new practice, you need take along your NHS medical card.  This has details of your current practice and NHS number, and will make it easier for you to register.  The NHS number ensures that your new practice will be sent your medical records as quickly as possible.

If you do not have an NHS card, you can get your NHS number from your current practice.  It is a good idea to write this down, along with your name and address.  Keep this information safe because you will need it whenever you move practices.

If you are having difficulties in finding a doctor, please contact the Business Services Centre, Mamhilad Park Estate, Pontypool on 01495 332000.
