A series of information and training sessions are being run across Wales on the Child Measurement Programme.
Fourteen sessions are being held throughout the whole of Wales to inform NHS staff about how the Child Measurement Programme for Wales will be implemented within each health board from September 2012.
The sessions are primarily for school nurses and child health data entry staff and will provide staff with the background to why children are being measured, details of changes to procedures and local guidelines. Practical training will also be provided by Tam Fry from the Growth Foundation on the consistent measurement of children.
Time has been allocated at lunch for informal networking for anyone interested in the Child Measurement Programme for Wales.
Dr Khesh Sidhu, Consultant in Public Health and Lead for the Child Measurement Programme said, “We have nearly had one full school year of the Child Measurement Programme for Wales being operational and reception aged children being measured.
“The training sessions planned will be extremely useful to ensure consistency throughout the programme and will provide a discussion forum for the new guidelines.
“We also want to take the opportunity at the training roadshows to meet staff involved either directly or indirectly in the Child Measurement Programme for Wales at lunch to share experiences of the Programme in its first year and welcome anyone who is part of the Programme to come along.”
