Laboratory Medicine

Welcome to Laboratory Medicine

The services provided by the Directorate of Laboratory Medicine are an integral part of clinical practice, and are provided through 8 unique departments. The main role of the service is to provide and interpret clinically relevant information for the diagnosis, management, early detection and prevention of disease through analysis of a laboratory investigation. The Directorate provides services to the University Health Board (UHB) and local General Practitioners, and also provides regional services in Wales and beyond.  In addition, the Directorate manages the UHB Mortuary and Phlebotomy services, and the Welsh External Quality Assurance Scheme (WEQAS).

Where clinically required, the service is offered 24 hours, 365 days per year.  All departments have achieved external accreditation as part of the Directorate's commitment to a quality service.
