The psychological and sociological implications of infertility on couples are well recognized. From the minute couples realize that they have difficulty in having a child, every step they make in the pathway to achieve this dream can add to their emotional turmoil and financial and physical strain. Infertility, its investigation and treatment can cause significant stress. Added to this is the social and family pressure.
At IVF Wales, we have a counselling service that is available to all patients of the clinic before, during or between treatments. It is also available when all treatment has finished.
For some people, counselling provides much needed support and intervention during periods of high stress. For some it's a place where thoughts and feelings about infertility can be explored and discussed privately. Others find that counselling helps them to develop coping strategies of their own. Couples sometimes use the service together, and sometimes one of the partners uses the service on their own. The service is completely confidential.
If you feel counselling is appropriate for you, please contact IVF Wales and arrange to talk to a counsellor on 029 2074 2676.
