Influenza activity in Wales: week 20 2013

The weekly clinical consultation rate for influenza in Wales for week 20 2013 is 3.6 consultations per 100,000 population. This is below the threshold for normal seasonal activity but has increased compared to the consultation rate for the previous week (2.5 per 100,000).

Measles: Parents urged to get to 10-19 year-olds vaccinated Public Health Officials from Cardiff and Vale University Health Board are urging parents of 10-19 year olds to get their children vaccinated against measles.

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is one of the largest NHS organisations in Wales. We employ approximately 14,500 staff and provide health services to a population of around 472,400 people living in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan. We also serve a wider population across South and Mid Wales for a range of specialties.

We are a teaching Health Board with close links to the university sector, and together we are training the next generation of healthcare professionals, while working on research that will hopefully unlock the cures for today’s illnesses.

The Health Board recently celebrated the 40th anniversary of when the Queen officially opened the University Hospital of Wales.
