The Welsh Assembly Government published Healthcare Standards for Wales in 2005, setting out a common framework of standards to support NHS and partner organisations in providing effective, timely and quality services across all healthcare settings. The standards are focused on improving the experience of patients and service users and ensuring services are planned with their best interests at heart.
Each year every NHS organisation is asked to undertake a self assessment against each of the healthcare standards. This information is submitted annually to Healthcare Inspectorate Wales (HIW), who in turn undertake an Inspection visit and provide each organisation with a report. These reports are published on the HIW website, including reports from Cardiff and Vale University Health Board predecessor organisations, Cardiff and Vale NHS Trust, Cardiff Local Health Board and the Vale of Glamorgan Local Health Board received in the summer of 2009.
The Healthcare Standards Improvement Plan (HCSIP) is part of the monitoring of Healthcare Standards for Wales . Each organisation is asked to develop an action plan (HCSIP) following their annual self assessment in order to improve compliance against assessment the following year. The action plan identifies actions that can be undertaken within a one year period.
The UHB is committed to ensuring that it is a world class leader when it comes to quality and safety of the services that it delivers, and the actions identified within this plan will help to support this aim.
