Patients and visitors can get support via the in-house Smoking Cessation Service, based at UHW and Llandough, and also via Stop Smoking Wales, which everyone can access, and is based in the community.
What the in-house Smoking Cessation team offer:
All outpatients, inpatients and their partners as well as parents of paediatric patients can receive in-house support to stop smoking. One-to-one intensive behavioural support is offered to help break the habit of smoking as well as the psychological addiction to cigarettes.
What the programme offers:
• One-to-one confidential counselling
• First session lasts one hour
• You will discuss different range of products to support giving up and the service can issue a prescription if appropriate
• Weekly follow up sessions for the first month
• Telephone follow ups (two, five & nine months)
• Appointment follow ups (three, six and 12 months)
The Smoking Cessation Counsellor will discuss:
• any previous attempts to give up and possible reasons for relapse
• providing factual information about what happens to the body when you stop smoking
• talking through any fears or concerns around quitting smoking and offering coping techniques
