Family Friendly Policies
In the spirit of promoting flexibility and work life balance, we have a range of policies designed to meet the needs of a changing workforce. These include Maternity Leave, Paternity Leave, Adoption Leave and Special (Emergency/Compassionate) Leave.
Flexible Working
The UHB is committed to the implementation of flexible forms of working for staff. Work life balance initiatives have been introduced, e.g. part-time working, term-time working, voluntary reduced hours, compressed hours, self rostering, and job sharing. The Work Life Balance Strategy is designed to help you to do just that.
Childcare Facilities
Excellent childcare facilities are available at two UHB sites, University Hospital of Wales (60 places) and University Hospital Llandough (33 places) for children aged from three months to five years. Staffed by fully trained nursery nurses (NNEB or equivalent), the nurseries offer good quality, reasonably priced childcare in a caring, secure and stimulating environment.

For those preferring to make their own childcare arrangements, our Work Life Balance Department provides access to a database of local childminders and nurseries. Partnership work with the Leisure and Life Long Learning Department in Cardiff County Council has resulted in part subsidised holiday play schemes for children of staff.
