A Typical ECAS Visit
- We will contact the patient or named representative to arrange an appointment.
- We have a dedicated ambulance based at ECAS which can transport people to and from their home location.
- On arrival the patient will undergo comprehensive assessment with one of the Nursing Staff.
- Medical Review is also undertaken and some simple investigations may be undertaken on the day (e.g. blood test, simple x rays). More complex tests may need to be arranged on another day and/or at another hospital (e.g. University Hospital of Wales).
- Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy will usually see and assess on the day and may arrange a follow-up home visit to assess function and safety at home.
- If urgent care is felt to be necessary, Rapid Response care can be initiated - this will be discussed at the visit with the Care Manager.
- If there are ugent medical problems, we may advise admission to hospital and can arrange this where necessary (this is not the usual outcome).
- Involvement of other therapies may occur, depending on need and may occur on another day.
- If further therapy or medical review is needed this may be arranged at ECAS, at medical outpatients clinic or in the community as appropriate.
- A faxed summary is sent to the referring doctor usually on the same day of the visit to outline all assessments and management plans.
