Welcome to the Employee Wellbeing Counselling Service
What is it?
Cardiff & Vale UHB has established an Employee Wellbeing Counselling Service for all staff. The service is free, independent and fully confidential.
Who can use this service?
All staff employed by Cardiff & Vale UHB are eligible. If you are not sure as to whether you are eligible, phone us and ask.
Who are the Counsellors?
Employee Wellbeing counsellors have both a formal training to diploma level and a minimum of 450 supervised hours. Honorary Associate counsellors are qualified to diploma level and have a great deal of experience. All counsellors receive regular supervision for their work.
Where can I see my counsellor?
Confidential locations are available across most UHB sites. The service can arrange for you to be seen in a number of settings depending on your needs.
How will I be assured that my visit will be treated with confidentiality?
Confidentiality is paramount. You will only be asked to give a first name. The service is run independently of your managers who will not be informed about your visit. Counsellors are bound by the B.A.C.P. code of ethics as well as national and local guidelines. Your counsellor will discuss these in more detail with you.
What sort of problems will the service deal with?
Problems which affect your emotional wellbeing may arise from many factors. People use the service for a whole variety of reasons; the counsellor will listen and either offer you further counselling or suggest alternative forms of help. The service offers brief focussed counselling. This means that a number of sessions will usually be agreed between yourself and your counsellor to help you focus on resolving particular issues.
How do I get in touch with a counsellor?
By ringing 029 2074 4465
The telephone will be answered by our coordinator between 8.00 am to 4.00 pm, Monday to Friday.
The coordinator will need to know your first name, and a daytime contact number. She will discuss a convenient time and location with you. She will then need to arrange your counselling with one of our counselling team, and ring you back to confirm the date, time and location (if you prefer you can contact the service to confirm this).
Outside of these hours an answerphone operates, where you can leave your name and a contact number.
You can also contact the coordinator by email to request an appointment and she will telephone you if you leave a contact telephone number, or email you to make the necessary arrangements for your first appointment with the counsellor.
What if I have an emergency and need help immediately?
We do not offer a 24 hour service. If you are in need of immediate help and we cannot respond to you then you may need to see your GP in the first instance.
