The Community Wound Healing Service is part of the Directorate of Unscheduled Care, and is based at the Lansdowne site in Canton, Cardiff. The service is part of the Wound Healing Directorate based at the University Hospital of Wales UHW) in Cardiff headed by Professor Keith Harding. The service provides specialist clinical care and support to patients and carers in the community who suffer with such wounds as leg ulcers and pressure ulcers.
Our team consists of 1 Lead Clinical Nurse Specialist, 2 Associate Nurse Specialists, 1 Personal Assistant and 4 Community Support Workers.
As a community team, we run 5 nurse led community leg ulcer clinics, two new wound assessment clinics and, in conjunction with Professor Harding, provide 2 inter-professional hospital clinics based at Cardiff Royal Infirmary (CRI) and UHW.

What we Offer
For Patients
We provide full holistic wound assessments with advice and treatment plans on many aspects of wound care which include: difficult post-operative wounds, pressure ulcer management, leg ulcers and Lymphoedema. There are also information leaflets available on specific wounds.

Referral Pathway
- Referrals can be received from any discipline.
- All referrals are received in writing via post or fax.
- All referrals are assessed for urgency by the clinical nurse specialist.
- Patients receive an appointment letter to attend clinic.
- House bound patients can receive a domiciliary visit by the clinical nurse specialist or her associate.
- As required patients can be referred on to other disciplines, or receive other services.
