Cardiff Breast Unit

Welcome to the Cardiff Breast Unit


The Cardiff Breast Unit is based at the University Hospital of Wales and the University Hospital Llandough.  Working in close collaboration with the Radiology and Pathology departments at the University Hospitals of Wales and the Oncology department at Velindre Hospital, the unit deals with all aspects of benign and malignant breast disease.  Outpatient services are provided at the University Hospitals of Wales, inpatient services at Llandough Hospital.



What we offer



Outpatients

We offer a rapid access service for assessment of suspected breast cancer patients.
Other outpatient services include breast cancer follow-up and rehabilitation and the assessment and management of non-malignant breast conditions such as congenital breast abnormalities, mastalgia, breast inflammation or gynaecomastia.  The unit is actively involved in a number of national and international trials.

Inpatients

The service provides the full spectrum of surgical management of benign and malignant breast conditions including 

  • breast reconstruction (prosthetic + myocutaneous flap reconstruction)
  • sentinel node biopsy
  • risk-reducing breast surgery
To other departments 
  • advice for inpatients with incidental finding of a breast lump
