Cardiac Services

Welcome to Cardiac Services

The Cardiac Services Group has provided care to patients in South Wales since the University Hospital of Wales was officially opened in 1971.  The Group has continued to grow, especially after the introduction of the Welsh National Service Framework for Coronary Heart Disease in 2002.

There is a specialist service for both Cardiology and Cardiothoracic Surgery, covering a full range of invasive and non-invasive treatments, supported by a range of facilities and appropriately trained clinical staff.

The department has a strong academic profile, and works closely with the Welsh Heart Research Institute.  It also provides the main teaching input for undergraduate and postgraduate training in cardiovascular medicine in Wales.
