Department of Anaesthetics


The Department of Anaesthetics provides anaesthetic services at five different sites, the University Hospital of Wales (UHW) and Dental Hospital at Heath Park, University Hospital Llandough, Velindre Hospital and Whitchurch Hospital.  The Department also provides acute and chronic pain management services.
 

Anaesthetic services


University Hospital of Wales:
The main theatre suite is located at level 3 block B.  Day stay anaesthesia service is located at level 'ground'.  The anaesthetic service for cataract surgery is located at ophthalmic theatre in the outpatient block.  Anaesthetic services are also offered for radiological procedures in the radiology suite and paediatric oncology (children's cancer) at the new paediatric block.

University Hospital Llandough: The main theatre is located at the first floor of the west wing of the hospital.  Day surgery theatres are located on the ground level at the west wing.

Dental Hospital: Day stay dental anaesthesia service is provided at this hospital.

Whitchurch Hospital: Anaesthesia for electroconvulsive therapy is provided at Whitchurch.

Velindre Hospital: Anaesthesia for oncological procedures are provided at Velindre, a specialist centre for cancer treatment.
 
 
 

Pain Management services


Chronic pain management service is based at the University Hospital of Wales (UHW).  Acute pain management service is available at UHW and University Hospital Llandough sites.
