Welcome to the Acute Pain Management Service
The Acute Pain Management Service was established at the University Hospital of Wales in 1992 and at the University Hospital Llandough in 1999. The service aims to ensure patients with acute pain are managed appropriately within the inpatient environment. Pain relief is incredibly important as the adverse effects of unrelieved acute pain can be psychological, physiological and socio-economic. Therefore, through a nurse-led service we aim to respond efficiently, offering specialist advice and support within the hospital.
Education is an integral part of the service in order to promote best practice and staff autonomy. Through collaborative working we aim to support, educate, encourage and empower other staff members to provide effective care.
