Parking at the University Hospital of Wales

Vinci Park is responsible for all car parking at the University Hospital of Wales (UHW). Their Customer Charter will provide you with information about their services and contact details.

Visitors to UHW must currently pay to park their vehicles. Car parks 1, 5, 8, 9, 10 and 11 are designated for visitor parking. Car parks 10 and 11 are for disabled visitors. Please see the Vinci Park site plan for the location of these car parks.

Some car parks are Pay & Display, and you should find a space before purchasing a payment ticket.
Some car parks are Pay on Foot. Please keep your ticket with you and pay at the pay station before returning to your vehicle.

Disabled bays are available throughout the UHW site. Parking in these areas is not free, and you must pay the appropriate rate.

There are a number of Drop Zones with a 20 minute limit situated around the hospital in various locations to allow visitors to pick up or drop off.

If you don't pay the required parking charge, you will be issued with a Civil Penalty Notice (a parking ticket).

Visitor Tariffs

Up to 4 Hours - £2.20
Up to 5 Hours - £3.40
Up to 6 Hours - £5.60
Up to 8 Hours - £6.70
8 to 10 Hours - £8.80
Up to 24 Hours - £10.00.

Please note that visitors will be allowed a grace period of 10 minutes either side of the normal paid for period.

Arrangements for Long-term Visitors (Alpha Pass)

Visitors to the hospital may purchase an Alpha Pass if they are attending for extended treatment, or are visiting for an extended period. Being in possession of a pass does not guarantee that a space will be available.

An Alpha Pass can be issued for use at all the visitor Car Parks at UHW. In order to qualify for an Alpha Pass, patients will be required to apply at the Parking Shop where the Alpha Pass will be issued on production of the applicable appointment card. Relatives will be required to bring to the Parking Shop evidence of eligibility (e.g. a letter from the hospital department) before an Alpha Pass can be provided. The Parking Shop is located in Car Park 9 (the large multi-storey).

Free car parking is available at all our other main hospital sites.

Public Transport

Many of our hospital sites are well served by public transport. There are times when you may find it easier to let the bus or the train take the strain out of your journey. This will also ease parking congestion, and help the environment.
