Cardiac rehabilitation is suitable for most patients following a heart attack, heart surgery or coronary intervention.
The Cardiac Rehabilitation Team will visit the ward to discuss your recovery, rehabilitation requirements and outline the rehabilitation programme. The aim is to ensure that you recover as quickly as possible and take action to help prevent further heart problems.
On discharge, patients are contacted by telephone and some are offered a home visit ten days following discharge. four to six weeks post cardiac event Patients are invited to a rehabilitation programme which are held in Llandough Hospital , University Hospital of Wales or Maindy Leisure Centre. The programme includes education, an exercise programme, stress management and relaxation. Maintenance exercise classes are available in local leisure centres throughout Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan.

- community rehabilitation
- stress management
- home based exercise programme if required and use of Heart Manual
- a cardiovascular risk factor clinic for all patients 3 months post coronary artery bypass graft surgery
- a follow-up clinic for all patients after completion of the rehabilitation programme.
